Fayette County Hospital and Long Term Care offers cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs. The program is supervised, monitored, individualized, educational, and an exercise program.
Entry into the program requires the referral of each patient’s personal physician who will continue to provide primary care. All or part of the fees are recognized as legitimate medical expenses by most insurance plans. However, you will need to check your policy regarding insurance benefits.

About the Program
Cardiac rehabilitation is a program for people who were diagnosed with a heart attack, angina, heart failure or other conditions, or who had cardiac surgery, coronary artery angioplasty or stents, a heart transplantation or other procedures.
The program includes:
- An assessment of your personal risk factors
- Beginning and maintaining a personalized exercise plan
- Education and support to make healthy lifestyle changes
- Monitoring of blood pressure, heart rate, weight and, if applicable, blood glucose levels
Goals
- Improve quality of life
- Better control of risk factors
Benefits
People with heart issues can improve their quality of life by:
- Learning more about their condition
- Getting more physical exercise
- Receiving psychosocial support
- Live longer and lessen your chances for another heart attack
- Control heart disease symptoms such as chest pain or shortness of breath
- Stop or reverse damage to your blood vessels in your heart

Pulmonary rehabilitation is a program for people who have COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), emphysema, asthma or other serious lung conditions. It is a multidisciplinary approach to chronic lung disease management using exercise and education to improve quality of life.
The program includes:
- An initial assessment
- Supervised exercise sessions and education by
- Respiratory therapists, nurses and exercise physiologists
- Requires referral to pulmonologist
Benefits
People with COPD and other lung conditions can improve their quality of life by:

- Psychosocial support.
